What Where Remidies

In medieval times many people had very odd remedies and solutions for disease. One thing people tried to do was flee to the country to avoid the plague. This unfortunately only caused the plague to spread to people in the country. Another thing they did was live in the sewers. They thought that staying out of the street air would prevent them from becoming infected but alas this not only did not work but other viruses found in the sewers also killed them. Others would place frogs on the welts of the infected (it did not work). Bloodletting was another popular cure. This is where leeches would such their blood believing they only sucked the bad blood. Some wealthy people would crush emeralds and eat them. This was a big waste of money. A rather disgusting thing people would do to cure it was stuff human feces in the wounds of the infected and bind it. They would also bathe in human urine of noninfected people. This just caused it to fester. One of the more sensible cures was eating rotten treacle. This ten year old treacle had some yeasts in it that may have helped with the infection. The craziest cure for the plague though was strapping a live chicken with its shaved butt on the wounds. This chicken was kept on the victim until the patient got better or the chicken became infected as well. But the most popular remedies of all however was killing Jews. People thought that it was the Jews fault so they killed thousands of them unjustly.
