As a result of the Black Death many people
did die. Scientists who study this disease have estimated that about 75-200
million people have died. In 4 years of this plague’s rein it is approximated
that 45-50% of Europe’s population was wiped out. Also this disease when spread
to Egypt killed about 40% of its population. When the plague spread to
different towns approximately 50% of the village’s population was wiped out.
Isolated areas were much less susceptible to contract the disease. Priests,
monks, and nuns died quite a lot because they treated patients that were
infected by the plague. Not only were people killed by the disease itself but
lots of Jews were killed by riots. People believed the Jews responsible and
persecuted them for their religion. The plague continued on and off for many
years in Europe. In fact there are still 500-2000 cases still reported each
year.
